World Cyclocross Championships, Jan 30, St. Wendel, Germany

In real life, I’m 5’1″ and range from 105 to 110 lbs. I grew up on a dirt road in Jericho, VT and raced alpine skis through high school at Burke Mountain Academy. From there, I followed my brother to Colorado and stole his cyclocross bike. I now reside in Boulder and own my own bikes. I race these bicycles all year long because I’d rather not discriminate between cyclocross, mountain bikes, road bikes, and cruiser bikes. There’s a passenger seat on all my bikes, so hop on and pedal to Blogville and follow my exploits around the world – pedaling the bike, shouldering the bike, getting bucked off the bike, and maybe even without a bike!

lucky #13 – tabor cx world cup
posted by crankbrothers

Those 2×8 hour drives were so much fun last weekend we decided sure, let’s do it again, except this time, let’s tack on another hour and drive further into Bohemia. So like déjà vu of last week Simon blasted Big Country while I attempted to learn Dutch through my headphones which sounded more like a [...]

I had to start somewhere and hopefully it’ll only go up from here… because I can’t stand going down crashing too many more times in the immediate future. I have learned that in mountain bike racing everyone has their own unique story from the trenches of the trail. If you can’t recount some tragedy you’re either lucky, riding alone, or riding the b-lines.

the front range 30

The Front Range 30-miler mountain bike race was on Saturday at Bear Creek Lake Park in Morrison, CO. It was one of the Front Ranges’ hottest days so a 2pm start was a shock to the system. I would describe the course more of a desert bike race than mountain bike, as there are hardly any trees and you’re riding a dusty and exposed loop.  Nevertheless, no matter what the course, if there is a start line there will also be a finish line and once the gun fires a race will proceed. To quote a coach of mine “Finish lines are sweet.”

Signing off of the on-n’-off season
posted by crankbrothers

I got a number written on the back of my hand. 4015. Looking at lap times…40th fastest; that was how miserable my first lap was. 15th fastest; that was my final lap placing. I had a good start, one of those days where gaps open in front and I was able to maneuver my way through. I think I’ll stop there with the blow by blow…I don’t need to re-live my miserable first lap, crashes and crash-induced body & bike mechanicals.

Hoogerheide World Cup Race Report
posted by crankbrothers

2008 Hoogerheide was my first World Cup. In 2009 Worlds were in Hoogerheide and I wanted to go but was not selected. In 2010 I returned to Hoogerheide for the World Cup, finishing 9th. It’s a special race to me, probably my favorite, no matter how the course is mapped out.

Petange Race Report

Day 2 of the Euro ‘cross stage race was much better and less discombobulated which was probably what made the difference. I dunno ’bout you but I know after time away from racing it is a cluster the first day back. Yes it was only 3 weeks off but coming to Europe is a different beast in itself. It’s different and intimidating… But I love it.
